About This Website

Why?

“We are the stories we tell ourselves. In this universe, and this existence… the stories we tell ourselves are the stories that define the potentialities of our existence. We are the stories we tell ourselves… A story is the relationship that you develop between who you are, or who you potentially are, and the infinite world, and that’s our mythology.” —Shekhar Kapur, Indian filmmaker

What?

This website has created to showcase the positives of Downtown Redding. Our goal is to share the beauty, the opportunities, and the benefits of downtown living with a larger audience. We will also explore Redding’s rich history and may also climb up on a soapbox from time to time to advocate on behalf of Downtown Redding’s best interests.

Although downtown, just like many other Redding neighborhoods, is facing some challenges, we feel it is blown out of all proportion to reality. The reality is: Downtown Redding is a place with a rich history, a myriad of unique advantages, and tremendous potential. If you only experience downtown by zipping through it in a car at 30 MPH, this might not be readily apparent. We invite you to get out of your car and look around, or at least poke around this website.

Where?

For the purposes of this website, we are considering downtown Redding being the area up to and including the Sacramento River on the north and east, Parkview Avenue on the south, and Almond Avenue on the west. We’d like to place a special emphasis on the area between Eureka Way, West Street, East Street, and South Street—the original town as plotted by the railroad.

Who?

This site is run as a labor of love by a group of individuals united by their love for Downtown Redding.
